The man who gave Spain their first-ever World Cup, Andrés Iniesta, got married to the mother of his daughter Valeria, Anna Ortiz, at Castillo de Tamarit, in Altafulla in the province of Tarragona.
The wedding of the footballer was a civil ceremony, four years after he began his relationship with hairdresser Anna Ortiz, who has always preferred to steer clear of the cameras and the spotlight. On Sunday they were the centre of attention for the 700 guests who attended the wedding.
Among the guests were some of the best-known faces in Spanish football, as well as people from the world of music. The ceremony led to some interesting encounters, such as Sandro Rosell (president of FC Barcelona), Joan Laporta and Joan Gaspart (former presidents), or Vicente del Bosque and Luis Aragonés.
Also there were Tito Vilanova, Pep Guardiola and Louis Van Gaal. The two most prominent couples in Spanish football weren't missing the event either - Iker Casillas and Sara Carbonero, and Gerard Piquet and Shakira. Barcelona's Argentinian forward Lionel Messi also attended the wedding with his girlfriend, Antonella Roccuzzo.
The number 8, the day in July chosen by Iniesta for his wedding, is a very significant one for him, as it was his shirt number when he played for Albacete. "It is a very special day, even though I usually do better at playing football than this kind of thing", Iniesta said before the wedding ceremony.
He did not have a traditional stag night, as he said goodbye to bachelorhood on Thursday night in a joint party with Anna Ortiz in her home town of Mataró. They asked all their guests to wear white, in the traditional Ibiza style.
